Start with the situation

Six cases cover nearly every sympathy order. The form, the address and the timing follow from the one you pick.

Funeral home

From $124.99

There is a visitation or a service at a funeral home

Send a standing spray or a wreath to the funeral home

Aim to arrive at least two hours before the service, and use the name of the deceased as printed in the obituary.

Plan a funeral home delivery

Graveside only

From $59.99

It is graveside only, or private with no visitation

Send a plant to the family home

A graveside service is short and rarely has anyone there to receive a delivery. The home address works.

Plants and dish gardens

To the home

From $64.99

You are sending to the family home this week

Send a vase arrangement that needs no unwrapping

It arrives ready in its own container and can go straight onto a table.

Sympathy bouquets

After the service

From $59.99

The service has already happened and you feel late

Send a plant to the home. You are not late

Almost everything arrives in one week and is gone by the next. Something later lands in the quiet.

Lasting plants

A colleague

From $79.99

Someone you work with has lost a family member

Send one arrangement signed by the team

Colleagues usually send one arrangement together rather than one each.

Funeral bouquets

A pet

From $64.99

A friend has lost a dog, a cat or a horse

Send something gentler, to their home

No service to time, no address to work out. The card matters most: use the animal by name.

Pet sympathy flowers

One gift from a group or a workplace22

$79.99 – $299.99

Fuller arrangements that suit either a service or a home, signed once by everyone.

Questions people ask before sending

Should I send flowers to the funeral home or to the family home?

Send to the funeral home if there is a visitation or a service, timed to arrive at least two hours before it begins so staff can carry it in. If it is graveside only, or you do not know the arrangements, send to the home instead.

Is it too late to send sympathy flowers after the funeral?

No. Almost everything arrives in the same week and is gone by the next, so flowers that come later are noticed more, not less. Send them to the home.

Bouquet, plant or spray — which should I send?

The form follows the address. A spray or a wreath stands on an easel, so it belongs at a funeral home rather than in a house. A vase arrangement arrives ready for a table, and a plant or a dish garden keeps for months.

What should I send when a colleague loses a family member?

One arrangement from the group rather than one from each person. Sign it with the team or company name, because the family is reading a great many cards in a short time and will not place every first name.

How quickly can sympathy flowers be delivered?

Order by 2:00 PM local time, Monday to Saturday, for same-day delivery. Every order is arranged on the day of delivery.

What do I need to know before I order?

For a home, the address and the family name. For a funeral home, its name and address, the date of the service, and the name of the deceased as printed in the obituary — funeral homes hold several services at once and route deliveries by that name.
