A way to remember their companion

Flowers and a short note can acknowledge what their pet meant to them. Mention a memory or use the pet’s name; a simple message of care is enough. Choose what feels right for your relationship.

What people actually send

Two directions, and neither one is wrong. It comes down to whether you want the arrangement to be quiet, or to look something like the animal did.

Soft and quiet

$69.99 – $89.9910 arrangements

Whites, pale blues, silver-greens. The steady choice when you do not know the household well, or when it only happened yesterday and anything loud would land wrong.

Bright, because they were

$64.99 – $119.9911 arrangements

Color reads as a thank-you for the animal rather than only a condolence. Senders who actually knew the pet tend to come this way — a pale arrangement would not have looked anything like him.

Where to send them

The house is the obvious answer. The other two are the ones people do not think of.

The house

Almost always right. The empty spot by the front door is where the loss actually lives, and something alive in that room helps more than you would expect.

The veterinary clinic

If the practice looked after the pet for years, or carried the family through the last appointment, flowers sent there are genuinely received. Put the pet’s name and the owner’s surname on the card — the staff will know the animal, not you.

Two or three weeks later

Condolences for a pet arrive in the first couple of days and then stop completely. A delivery after that gap lands in the quiet stretch, which is usually the one that gets remembered.

What to write on the card

Use the animal’s name. It is the one thing that turns a general note into a note about their dog. “Sorry for your loss” is a card anyone could have sent; “sorry about Baxter” could only have come from someone who knew him.

And use the pronoun the family uses — he and she, not it. Nobody who has lost a pet calls them it.

A dog, after many years

“Fourteen years of Baxter. What a dog he was. Thinking of you both this week.”

A cat

“The house is going to be so quiet without Mabel on that windowsill. I am so sorry.”

No warning

“I cannot believe it about Rufus. No warning at all. I am around all week if you want company.”

After a decision at the vet

“You did the kindest thing for Nala, even though it was the hardest. She was so lucky to have you.”

A child’s pet

“For Pepper, who was a very good hamster. Love to Ellie — it is alright to be this sad about him.”

From people who never met him

“We know exactly how much Scout meant to you. From all of us in the shop.”

And three things to leave out

  • Leave out “just a dog” and “only a cat” in every construction, including the sympathetic ones.
  • Do not mention getting another one, however gently. Not in this card.
  • Do not measure it against a human loss in either direction.

Questions about pet sympathy flowers

Is it appropriate to send flowers when someone’s pet dies?
Yes. It is an ordinary thing to do rather than an eccentric one, and the flowers go to the person, not to the animal. You do not need to have known the pet yourself — knowing what that pet meant to your friend is reason enough.
What do you write on a card for a pet that died?
Use the animal’s name, and the pronoun the family uses — he or she, not it. “Sorry about Baxter, fourteen years of the best dog” says far more than “sorry for your loss”, because it could only have come from someone who knew him.
How much do pet sympathy flowers cost?
Pet sympathy arrangements run $64.99 – $119.99 across the 21 designs on this page. Delivery is free on all orders and there are no service fees, so the arrangement price plus applicable sales tax is the total.
Can flowers be delivered to a veterinary clinic?
Yes. Give the practice name and street address, and put the pet’s name and the owner’s surname on the card. Clinic staff recognize the animal’s name, and that is what tells them who the flowers are for.
What if there is still a cat in the house?
Lilies are the flower to keep away from cats. If you would like them left out, note it during checkout — the substitution policy asks for specific requirements there, and any substitution keeps the same style and color palette at equal or greater value.
When should the flowers arrive?
Order by 2:00 PM recipient local time, Monday to Saturday, and they are delivered today. There is no wrong day for this one, though: since most pet condolences come in the first forty-eight hours and then stop, flowers two or three weeks later arrive when the house has gone quiet.
