Plants to give
Two from each care level · $54.99 – $194.99
Four care levels — pick the person, not the plant
LEVEL 01
Watered twice a month
For someone who travels, forgets, or has never kept a plant alive.
The usual killer is kindness, not neglect — water only when the soil is bone dry.
- Water
- Every 2–3 weeks
- Light
- Bright — a sunny windowsill
- In this level
- 26 plants · $54.99 – $99.99
LEVEL 02
Watered about once a week
For an office, a first plant, or a room with no sunny window.
More tolerant than the succulents people reach for first: a pothos droops when thirsty, then recovers within hours.
- Water
- Weekly, when the top inch is dry
- Light
- Medium to low — away from a window
- In this level
- 12 plants · $59.99 – $94.99
LEVEL 03
Weekly, and it wants looking at
For someone who already keeps plants and notices a drooping leaf.
Nothing here holds water in reserve, so a fortnight away shows. In a dish garden, water when the driest plant asks. Dieffenbachia sap irritates mouths and paws — skip it around a cat or a toddler.
- Water
- Weekly, soil kept slightly damp
- Light
- Bright but indirect — no direct sun
- In this level
- 9 plants · $64.99 – $119.99
LEVEL 04
A routine, and it pays you back
For someone who enjoys the looking after, or wants months of flowers.
An orchid holds its blooms two to three months and lives on for years, given weekly watering that drains completely.
- Water
- Weekly, drained completely
- Light
- Bright, indirect — cool to keep blooming
- In this level
- 14 plants · $59.99 – $194.99
Low water does not mean low light
The plants that ask for the least water ask for the most light.
| Plant type | Light it needs |
|---|---|
| Snake plant (sansevieria) | Dim corner or bright sill |
| Succulent and cactus gardens | Direct sun, brightest window |
| Jade | Hours of direct sun |
| Kalanchoe | Bright, some direct sun |
| Terrariums and glass planters | Bright, no direct sun |
| Pothos | Fine away from a window |
| Dracaena | Medium, indirect |
| Lucky bamboo | Indirect only |
| Peace lily (spathiphyllum) | Low to medium |
| Palm | Bright, no direct sun |
| Bromeliad | Bright, indirect |
| Dieffenbachia | Medium, indirect |
| Arboricola (schefflera) | Bright, indirect |
| Dish gardens and assortments | Bright, indirect |
| Orchid (phalaenopsis) | Bright indirect, east window |
| Azalea | Cool and bright |
| African violet | Bright, indirect |
| Bulb plants (tulip) | Cool and bright |
Two times a plant beats a bouquet
The weeks after a loss
Flowers do their work in the first week; a plant is still there in week four. Keep it to the two lowest care levels.
13 low-care sympathy plants · $59.99 – $94.99
A desk nobody waters for two weeks
Offices are lit from the ceiling, not from a window, so level 02 foliage beats a succulent that needs a sunny sill.
6 plants that cope with ceiling lighting · $59.99 – $74.99
If nobody in that house waters anything, flowers are the kinder gift — see cut arrangements instead.
Free delivery on all orders, no service fees, and a 7-day freshness guarantee or your money back.
Plant questions, answered plainly
- Which plants are easiest, and which cope with a room that has no real daylight?
- A snake plant, a jade or a succulent garden, watered every two to three weeks — though jade and succulents want your brightest window. For a dark room, or an office lit from the ceiling, choose pothos, dracaena or a snake plant.
- Do orchids need more work than other plants?
- A little. An orchid is watered weekly and must drain completely, because roots left standing in water rot. In return the blooms hold two to three months, far longer than a cut arrangement.
- Should I send a plant or flowers for a sympathy gift?
- Both, if you can. Flowers do their work in the first week, when the house is full of people; a plant is still there in week four. Keep it to the lowest care levels.
- Are these living plants, or cut flowers in a pot?
- Living plants, in the container they will be kept in, and they are arranged on the day of delivery. Cut-flower arrangements are listed in the flower categories instead.
- How much does delivery cost?
- Delivery is free on all orders and there are no service fees. Order by 2:00 PM local time, Monday to Saturday, for same-day delivery. The price you see is the price you pay, plus applicable sales tax.
